Shane Ryder comes from a farming background with an Honours Degree in Equine Science from the University of Limerick. He started his career in racing as an amateur jockey and worked for a wide range of trainers including John Hayden, Mick Halford, Pat Fahy, Eamon Sheehy, Dermot Weld and Tony Mullins to name a few. With over 25 years experience in the field, Shane has acquired a wealth of knowledge in all aspects of horse racing.
Shane Ryder Racing was established in his home town of Laurencetown, Galway in 2007. Following this Shane has successfully trained numerous winners both in point to points and on the track, with his most notable winner to date being at the Galway Festival in 2017.
The yard comprises of 12 stables, a 2.5 furlong Wexford sand gallop and a lunge ring. Shane also has access to grass gallops and is a regular visitor to the Curragh and Charlie Swans, where he has the use of their extensive facilities.
Shane is also involved in producing young horses for resale. Two recent recruits include the successful Mister Miyagi and No Hasslehoff to Dan Skelton’s yard in the UK.
